Pirates
Amateurs 29 Newquay 2nds 14
Saturday 4th October, 2008
Because
Newquay arrived with just 15 players and no recognised front-row, this match had
to be played with uncontested scrums.
After only 10 minutes the visitors
were reduced to just 14 men, but there was a sporting reaction from 'Pirate' Scott
Dugdale who responded and played the rest of the game for the Hornets, a time
during which he apparently received a few late hits from his team mates!
Also,
Christian Hosking was another who helped the visitors out by playing the last
30 minutes of the game.
On a wet and windy afternoon at the Mennaye Field,
it was inevitable that handling would be difficult, but there was still some fine
play, flanker Sam Heath twice putting in No. 8 Scott Powell for two of the home
side's five tries scored in the match.
The pack played particularly well
around at the ruck area, a vast improvement on their previous game, with lock
George Pye and the Gwennap brothers stand out performers.
