Truro
Colts 26 Pirates Colts 0
Saturday 11th October 2008
The
Pirates Colts lost their 100% record this season, going down 26-0 against a well-drilled
and organised Truro side which had a bigger pack of forwards and a set of backs
that were quick and slick.
An early mistake gifted Truro
a converted try at the posts, and although the Pirates rallied they were often
penalised by former international referee Laurie Prideaux. Taking advantage to
create good field position, a catch and drive from a line-out ended with Truro
scoring one more try in the first period to give them a 12-0 lead at the break.
In
the second half the Pirates forwards were more than a match for their opponents.
No. 8 and skipper Tom Cowan-Dickie and flanker Alistair Hutchins stood out, as
did scrum-half Trevelyan Dugdale, but when Truro won turnover ball their outsides
took immediate advantage to set up another easily converted try.
The
Pirates made several changes, as everyone gave their all, but it was not enough
as the hosts notched up a further converted score in the very last minutes to
give them a win they fully deserved.
Such a result will
have done the young Pirates no harm, it showing them that there's plenty of work
to do to improve and take their game forward, and thus get back to winnings ways.
