Under
12's Redruth Home - October 12th, 2008 Playing
their first fixture of the season, the Pirates got off to a flying start with
a superlative display of teamwork that reaped 9 tries against a defiant Redruth
squad of over 25. From their own kick off, the Pirates
pressured the Reds line for long periods without any tangible result. However,
the relentless pressure finally reaped an initial try from Centre Alfie Prosser.
The Reds immediately hit back to score an equalising try. The Pirates knew they
had the usual hard encounter on their hands and they gradually got into their
stride - very strong forward play finally yielding a second try by debutante John
Blewett. Whilst the Pirates had long periods of possession
the Reds tackled with immense commitment and made the Pirates work hard up front
before Pirates No 8 Reuben Mzera added 2 quick tries to provide the home side
with a solid platform. Having edged ahead, the Pirates were beginning to open
up opportunities out wide that allowed Elliott Nicholls to dive over for the Pirates
next try. Both sides had large squads and regularly changed
their line ups allowing all game time. The Reds with a squad of over 25 probably
found it more difficult to gain team continuity especially with many newcomers
in the side. Nevertheless, their back line scored the try of the match with a
flowing move down the left that left many Pirates sprawling in their attempt to
stop some pacy backs. The Pirates continued to demonstrate
solid teamwork with many selfless forwards securing possession in order to allow
the free flowing backs to demonstrate handling their skills. Further
tries were scored by scrum half Dylan Williams, Reuben secured his hat-trick and
John Blewett a brace, with wing Jake Carley putting the icing on the cake finishing
off a flowing move that had opened up the Reds defence. Try
