Pirates U14s win 'Plate' Final 13th April,
2008 Pirates U14s 41 Launceston U14s 19 The Pirates
were worthy winners of this keenly contested Cornwall U14s Plate Final played
at St. Ives on Sunday, with centre Harvey James in fine form as he quickly scored
a hat-trick of tries, and converted two for good measure, to stun Launceston. Recovering
from an early shock, the spirited 'All Blacks' side regrouped and came back into
the match to score a converted try, only for the Pirates to impress again from
the restart when a swift display of handling ended with Harry Hudson scoring a
corner try which made it 24-7 at the interval. The Pirates continued to
dominate in the second half, Connor Outram scoring first, with then a fourth for
James. Launceston hit back with their second try of the match, before Pirates
flanker Michael Springett responded to cross for his 26th try of the season. There
was still time for Launceston to notch up their third try, but it was consolation
only, as the Pirates were deserved victors, it a reward for their effort put in
all season. Scorers - tries: James (4), Hudson, Outram, Springett; cons:
James (3).
