at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, on Wednesday 3rd December, the Cornish Pirates
will provide free coaching to young rugby players of Cornwall. Quality
coaching will be under the direction of Cornish Pirates assistant coach Brett
Davey, a former Bristol and Newport Gwent Dragons player. Assisting Brett will
be a number of players from the Cornish Pirates squad. |

will be a food & quiz evening on Friday 28th November at Westholme. Fresh
fish, chips & mushy peas wil be served, followed by a quiz. All
proceeds to the mini juniors |

Pirates have recently had cause to celebrate, as 10 of their number have recently
played for Cornwall Schools 16 Group in matches against Devon and Somerset. It
is always an honour to achieve such recognition, both for the players themselves
and for the club, with thanks always due to the coaches involved who have nurtured
them along the way. |

former Pirates player, Ron Jenkin, aged 74, whose brothers Jimmy (deceased) and
Keith also played for the club, has died suddenly on Monday of this week. Mousehole-born
Ron, a retired fisherman and boat owner, and a keen bowler, was very much part
of a big rugby family. His daughters Karen and Lesley are married to Billy Lawrence
and Gary Outram, who played for the Pirates, as have grandsons Jacob Lawrence
and Tom Outram. Ron's wife Margaret is also a sister to former scrum-half Trevor
Swann. |

October 7th 2008 | | | | We
have heard this week (October 6th 2008) that former player and lifelong supporter
of the Pirates, Dick Payne, aged 78, has passed away. Always enthusiastic
as a player, Dick played over 100 games for the club, as did his late brother
Ralph, with there several other members of the family who have worn the Pirates
colours over the years. Dick's funeral took place at Wesley Rock Methodist Church
Heamoor at 11am on Tuesday 7th October 2008. |
