Geoffrey
Rowe - 'Jethro'Jethros rugby interest was nurtured
at Cape Cornwall School (a then primitive rugby academy in the far south-west!)
under the guidance of Derek Small who helped produce other famous Pirate characters
such as Colin Dumbo Dymond and Graham Granite Waters.
He played in St. Justs first-ever match back in 1967 and then in 1970 had
his first spell with the Pirates. Jethro played his 100th. match for us
in 1974-75 and then became a popular professional entertainer, well-known to Westward
TVs Treasure Hunt viewers. He lived then at Wadebridge
but returned to play a further 20 games for the Pirates in 1979-80 as a respected
and stocky prop-forward. Over the years, through his profession, he became
better-known to a wider audience, but, much to his credit, he has not forgotten
his roots (Denzil wouldnt let un!) and he has happy memories of St.
Just (his school, the rugby club and the Operatic Society) and of his times with
the Pirates. |
