The Pirates were efficiently controlled in the first of two matches played, with forwards Ed Holmes and Tom Sutton particularly impressive. Despite the stern tackling efforts of their opponents, the Pirates still managed to score an impressive six tries through centre Tom Holdsworth (2), stand-in wing Sam Skinner (2), Lockran Williams and Jake Hole. Fly-half Sam Coogan added three conversions

13th April, 2008

In this second game both sides used their full squads to give the large crowd another action-packed and at times very robust game. The home side gave it their all and were desperately unlucky not to score a try of their own, but it was not to be. Superb defence from the Pirates, which is something that has been worked on all season, denied the 'Hornets' any points.
Tries for the Pirates were scored by Tom Holdsworth (2) and Fred Ault, plus an excellent effort from fly-half Ollie Hallworth, who also added three conversions.

Wadebridge U12s 14 Pirates U12s 47

6th April, 2008

This was a great game of open rugby which was often played in driving sleet, with the Pirates emerging worthy winners .

Playing down the slope in the first half, the Pirates scored tries through Tom Holdsworth (3) and wing Jake Hole, three of which were converted by Ollie Hallworth. Just on half-time there was a consolation score from the lively Wadebridge winger.

In the second half it really was more of the same, with the Pirates forwards outstanding .Two great tries were scored by Lockran Williams, and there was one more from Tom Holdsworth, each converted by Ollie Hallworth. Again, back came Wadebridge at the end of the half, as they scored their second converted try.

Man of the match for the Pirates was Dillon Tree.

Footnote.
During the weekend five young lads from the Pirates U12s squad also agreed to go across and help out Hayle U12s in their festival. Playing in a Barbarians sort of side with players also from Worthing and Ledbury, the boys had a great weekend meeting and playing against some excellent teams from all over the country. The lads who deserve to be named for their sportsmanship were George Hollis , Ben Rollason, Luke McFadden, Zac Roberts and Sam Coogan.

30th March, 2008

This match was rightly described as being a fabulously entertaining game of rugby played between a scratch Hayle/Pirates team and a side comprising the rest of the Pirates U12s.

All the players thoroughly enjoyed themselves, there six tries scored by man of the match Tom Holdsworth, and two for improving forward Sam Skinner. Zac Roberts scored the remaining Pirates try, with Sam Coogan converting all nine to notch up a personal 18 points haul.

The combined side was not to be outdone, them scoring excellent tries through Ollie Hallworth (2), Ed Holmes, Hamish Jeffery, and Tye (from Hayle), who also added four conversions.

29th March, 2008

On a windy Saturday afternoon at the Nerwquay Sports Centre the Pirates played their first game for quite a while, and overcame an understandly lethargic start to ultimately emerger worthy winners. Try scorers were Oliver Hallworth (2), Tom Hallworth (2), and Billy Reid.

Winscombe U12s 10 Pirates U12s 0

29th March, 2008

Playing a second match at Newquay, this time against the touring Winscombe side from Somerset, the Pirates were outscored by two tries to nil.
The team battled hard to keep their unbeaten record for the season intact, but all to no avail. The visiting team were deserved winners, their forwards dominant and playing the conditions perfectly.

Helston U12s 0 Pirates U12s 31

10th. February, 2008

Helston U12s hosted their counterparts from Penzance and took full part in a keenly contested match.

The home side started with a good pick and drive game, before the Pirates came back strongly and scored two tries in the first half. Prop Ben Martin forced his way over for the first crucial score following a scrummage, there one then scored by centre Tom Holdsworth who ran strongly through the middle. Both efforts were converted by fly-half Sam Coogan.

At half-time the Pirates made a number of changes, including the welcome return of scrum - half Treeve Polglase, who made an immediate impact on the game. Impressive play by the Pirates forwards led to a try from huge second row Mike Wilson, who had a fine match.

Two further scores from Tom Holdsworth secured his hat-trick , one being converted by "man of the match" Sam Coogan .

Even though a 5-nil try count might tells its own story, the workman-like Pirates were still pushed all the way by a steadily improving Helston side.

Billy Reid, making his debut on the wing, was unlucky not to score on, his 'try' disallowed because the referee called play back after spotting some foul play.

Tom Holsworth notched up a further two tries in this game, and Dillon Tree one, with all three converted by Ben Rollason. This game was much more evenly contested, Helston hitting back with one converted try of their own, which was fully deserved.

Pirates 14 Truro 7

Sunday 4th, 2007

Playing their first game at home this season the pirates u12s recorded a fine win against the cornish champions Truro in a wonderfully entertaining game.

A first half try from Tom Holdsworth was awarded from a quickly taken penalty, which was converted by fly-half Ollie Hallworth. Truro pushed hard like the good champions they are and scored a converted try of their own to make it 7-all.

In a pulsating second half both sides went all out for the win, the game swinging from end to end. Luckily for the hosts they had just enough in the tank when excellent centre Lockran Williams punished some ill discipline by Truro and charged over for the winning score converted again by Ollie Hallworth. A great entertaining game from two very good sides.

Pirates 17 Truro 7

In a second game played between the development sides of both clubs with lots of new boys playing a 3 to 1 ratio of tries scored was probably a fair result.

Again both sides endevoured to play good rugby right from the start. Scrumhalf Phil Nicholas was first on the scoreboard converted by Ben Rollason the second coming quickly from Tom Holdsworth which went unconverted.Truro responded with a converted try of their own before young Sam Skinner scored his first try for the Pirates club with a powerful run to the corner. Lots to work on in training especially in the forwards where Truro really did have the edge. Well done to both sides.

Launceston U12s 0 Pirates U12s 21

Sunday 21st. October, 2007

On a beautiful, sunny morning at Polson Bridge the Pirates scored an early try through gifted centre Tom Holdsworth, which was converted by Ollie Hallworth.

As the game developed the visiting forwards started to dominate, culminating in two further tries, scored by birthday boy Lockran Williams and Fred Ault, with Hallworth again adding the extras

A second game for the Development team versus Launceston was played, it a match were debutants Sam Skinner and Billy Reid showed up well, and centre Kainon Dayus proved himself an able runner and tackler.

'Man of the match' Asher Richards and Mike Wilson were try-scorers, with Sam Coogan's conversion making it 14-0. Even though Launceston were outplayed, they never gave up, and at the death nearly crossed for a try of their own.

Redruth U12s 0 Pirates U12s 28

Sunday 7th. October, 2007

This was a fine performance in the first game of the season away to a useful Redruth side. First half tries were scored by Lockran Williams and Asher Richards, which were both converted by Ollie Hallworth. The forwards had played especially well, their rucking and mauling impressive.

Richards crossed the line again in the second half, as did man of the match Treeve Polglase - one of the tries converted by Hallworth ,and the other by Sam Coogan.

A second short game followed between the Pirates second string and Redruth 'A' who won 26-7. The one try for the Pirates was scored by Asher Richards - his third of the day, with Hallworth again converting.

The Pirates coaches were delighted with this start, though accepting that there are areas of play to work on in training.
