Amateurs 31 Pirates Amateurs 21 A noon kick-off was a tall order for the Pirates after a night at Kempton Park races, it a situation exacerbated by the fact the team also had just 13 fit players to take on theirs 'Quins' counterparts. Watching the game played at Teddington was former England captain Bill Beaumont, whose son played at hooker for the hosts, the large crowd enjoying the contest. The Pirates led 21-14 at the break, before injuries took their toll when 'Pup' Gwennap and Des O'Connell had to go off. With a player also sin-binned the Pirates played with just 10 men for a spell, it perhaps no surprise that the Quins, who only had 14 players themselves, ultimately emerged winners of a hard-fought match. Tries for the Pirates were scored by prop Treve Williams, wing Phil Grey and centre Tom McFadden. Lock Scott Powell slotted two conversions, with there one also successfully kicked by fly-half Andrew Snell. Pirates Amateurs: M. Osborne, T. McFadden, D. O'Connell, P. Grey,
A. Snell, G. Tackle, S., Dugdale, R. Sharp, S. Powell, D. Lawrence, T. Williams,
A. Gwennap, M. Blewett. Pirates 2nds Back In Training Friday 19th July 2007 The Pirates 2nds have started training for the new rugby season which will see them play both Merit Table games and friendlies against Cornwall One teams. It is also hoped to play a number of midweek floodlit matches. Players 'old and new' are welcome to attend training at the Mennaye Nurseries field at 7pm on Wednesday evenings. Paul Greaves - a former Pirates player and successful coach of the club in the early nineties - will be coaching the team, but there is still a need for a first-aider to lend assistance.
